General Science 1: Survey of Earth & Sky

In this unique science course students in grades 7 - 12 will explore oceans, astronomy, weather, and minerals as they discover fascinating facts, incredible wonders, captivating creatures, and God's glory on display throughout creation!

Course Description
This is the suggested course sequence that allows two core areas of science to be studied per semester. You can change the sequence of the semesters per the needs or interests of your student; materials within each semester are independent of one another to allow flexibility.

Quarter 1: Ocean
The oceans may well be Earth's final frontier. These dark and sometimes mysterious waters cover 71 percent of the surface area of the globe and have yet to be fully explored. Under the waves, a watery world of frail splendor, foreboding creatures, vast mountains, and sights beyond imagination awaits. Now this powerful resource has been developed for three educational levels! Learning about the oceans and their hidden worlds can be exciting and rewarding - the abundance and diversity of life, the wealth of resources, the latest discoveries, and the simple mysteries that have intrigued explorers and scientists for centuries. A better understanding of our oceans ensures careful stewardship of their grandeur and beauty for future generations, and leads to a deeper respect for the delicate balance of life on that God created on planet Earth.

Quarter 2: Astronomy
The universe is an amazing declaration of the glory and power of God! Beautiful and breathtaking in its scale, the vast expanse of the universe is one that we struggle to study, understand, or even comprehend in terms of its purpose and size. Now take an incredible look at the mysteries and marvels of space in The New Astronomy Book! If you watch the stars at night, you will see how they change. This speaks to the enormity and intricacy of design in the universe. While the stars appear timeless, they instead reflect an all powerful Creator who speaks of them in the Bible. Many ancient pagan cultures taught that the changing stars caused the seasons to change, but unlike these pagan teachings, the Book of Job gives credit to God for both changing stars and seasons (Job 38:31-33). Quarter 3: Weather

Quarter 4: Mineral

Minerals are touched on in video games like Minecraft and Mineral Valley TM, making them more a part of our daily experience. Salt, one vital mineral, helps maintain the fluid in our blood cells and is used to transmit information in our nerves and muscles. Also, Jesus told his followers that we are the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13), something thus needed for health and flavor. Here is a God-honoring book that reveals the first mention of minerals in the Bible, symbolic usages, their current values in culture and society, and their mention in heaven.

With studies based on 4 of the engaging, full-color Wonder series books rather than tedious textbooks, this course adds a little variety to your science program. In the course of a year, students will learn about oceans, astronomy, weather, and minerals. This general science curriculum serves as a great earth science option, the course is written from a biblical worldview perspective and emphasizes the accuracy of the Bible and the glory of God's creation.

Features: Each suggested weekly schedule has three easy-to-manage lessons which combine reading, worksheets, and vocabulary-building opportunities including an expanded glossary for each book. Designed to allow your student to be independent, materials in this resource are divided by section so you can remove quizzes, tests, and answer keys before beginning the coursework. As always, you are encouraged to adjust the schedule and materials as you need to in order to best work within your educational program.

Workflow: Students will read the pages in their book and then complete each worksheet. Students should also complete the Activities on each worksheet if possible. Tests and quizzes are given at regular intervals with space to record each grade.

Lesson Scheduling: Space is given for assignment dates. There is flexibility in scheduling. While each quarter has 45 days of assignments, they do not have to be given M-F. Some students may prefer to do more assignments each day, allowing for breaks on other days. Each week listed has five days but due to vacations the school work week may not be M-F. Please adapt the days to your school schedule. As the student completes each assignment, he/she should put an 'X' in the box.
