Starting at B is recommended for:
Developing readers age 7 and under who have already begun to read and who have mastered the following skills taught in Foundations A:
-All the sounds of A-Z
-Segmenting and blending sounds auditorily, and identifying individual sounds within a spoken word.
-Writing the lowercase letters from muscle memory
-Sounding out and reading short vowel words with consonant blends
-Spelling short vowel words with consonant blends by sounding them out and writing the phonograms
-Advanced readers age 7 and under, if they can already -write the lowercase letters. These students will often move quickly through B, learning phonograms, spelling rules, and language concepts that they can apply for spelling and that they will need for the next levels. They will then spend most of their time on the more advanced concepts in levels C and D.
-Eight-year-olds who have the skills listed above and who enjoy the playful, high-energy style of Foundations lessons. (Most students age eight and up will prefer Essentials.)
-NOTE: Children who have not mastered all the skills taught in Foundations A should either begin Foundations with level A or start at Essentials.
-For most young children, Foundations A is the best starting point in Logic of English. In level A, students develop strong phonemic awareness skills, learn all the sounds of the A-Z phonograms, learn to write them in lowercase, and apply these skills as they begin to read and spell CVC words and short vowel words with consonant blends.

Handwriting Style
-The Foundations B Teacher's Manual includes instructions for teaching the uppercase letters in manuscript AND cursive.
-The workbook and supplements come in cursive.
-Lowercase is taught in A. Students should be able to write the lowercase in the handwriting style they are learning BEFORE starting Foundations B lessons.

Teaching Multiple Students?
This set includes everything needed for one teacher and one student. Each additional student will need:
-Foundations B Student Workbook - either Cursive OR Manuscript
-Student Whiteboard
-optional: Foundations B Readers and Foundations B Young Artist Series Readers (one set per student recommended, or to share with a partner)
-optional: Phonogram Game Tiles (one set per student recommended, or to share with a partner)

After Completing This Level
Children typically spend about four to six months on Foundations B. (Early readers for whom some of the concepts in B are review can often move much more quickly.) After completing level B, you will need:
-Foundations C Set (lessons 81-120)
-Foundations D Set (lessons 121-160), plus the children's literature used in D (available from here or from the library or bookseller of your choice)
The best pace depends on the student and setting, but it's common for students to complete the four levels of Foundations in 2-3 years. Students starting at level B typically complete Foundations B, C, and D in 1.5 to 2 years.
